Re-Lab BCN
The following is the collection of work from my time at Clemson University's Architecture Graduate program. The work explores many different aspects about architecture within the city context and tries to re-define mixed use program based design and explores new solutions. The wide selection of project sites through out my graduate and undergraduate education tackles urban density at different scales.
Context
A density study between Ciutat Vella and Cerda’s plan. This project explores and provides a space for locals to inhabit in the public realm of a tourist saturated city. As more and more young professionals make an effort to leave the city of Barcelona for opportunities abroad, the number of tourist has increase 1.77% this past year making it the fourth most visited city in Europe after London, Paris and Rome. The density is the city of Barcelona is concentrated mainly around La Rambla and Plaça de Catalunya which has become the arrival and departure destination for both the cruise line and airport shuttles and lets not forget about the double decker tour buses. In this concentration point many hotels, hostels and Airbnbs have allowed tourist to make this area their home base where they can reach many touristic attractions like Gaudi’s Casa Milà, Casa Batlló Sagrada Famila and Parc Güell form this centralized location. Density Intervention is a strategy for a portion of the extension of the Eixample Bloc designed by Cerda, to allow locals to take back the streets of Barcelona.
